Executive Board

The Executive Board of the Maine College Democrats is composed of student leaders from colleges and universities across the state:

Ben Goodman, President
Ben Goodman Ben is a sophomore at the University of Maine, majoring in Political Science. Ben grew up in Kennebunk, and has been volunteering for Democratic candidates and campaigns since 2000. He represented Democrats in Maine's first congressional district as a Barack Obama delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and currently represents York County on the Maine Democratic State Committee. He spent this summer interning at the Maine Democratic Party in Augusta. Ben is a Democrat because he believes in social and economic justice for all Americans. He hosts two radio programs and has a strange love for Western Swing music.
Kat Cosgrove, Vice President
Kat Cosgrove Kat is a senior at Colby College, double majoring in French Studies and International Studies. Originally from Maine, she spent a good amount of time in the state while growing up, but attended high school in southern New Hampshire. Most recently, she spent a year studying abroad in Switzerland. Although this caused her to miss out on election activities in this country, she was able to intern with Democrats Abroad and experienced American politics from an entirely different perspective. She spent this past summer interning with the Maine Democratic Party, and is also the Vice President of the Colby College Democrats, in addition to being Co-Vice President of the Maine College Democrats. Kat is a Democrat because she believes in equality for every single person on the face of the planet, no exceptions. After graduation, she hopes to relocate to Washington D.C. to pursue a career with the State Department. She enjoys candlelit dinners, long walks on the beach, and making Republicans eat their words.
Dave O'Heir, Vice President
Dave is from Waterville and is currently going to the University of Maine, where he’s a member of the UMaine College Democrats. Dave grew up in a Democratic family in a Democratic town. He has been working and volunteering in Maine for various campaigns and causes for a few years now. He hopes to help ensure that college students remain an important part of the Democratic base vote in Maine. Dave is Democrat because he believes that government is a necessary force for the common good. The most worthwhile causes are those that help others and that are larger than one’s self-interest.
Pete Christopher, Treasurer
Pete Christopher Pete is a Democrat because he believes in the great things that people are capable of when they are given a chance to succeed. He believes it is the responsibility of the masses to see that every single person is given that chance.
Caitlin Callahan, Communications Director
Charlie Longo, Political Affairs
Charlie Longo The Democratic Party is the party of the people. Longo became a Democrat to fight for the voices that are underrepresented and are sometimes the most valuable. He comes from a town in Mountains of Northern Maine and recently took a semester off from college to serve as a staffer on the Obama Campaign. He continues his fight as the Maine College Democrats Political Director and would love to hear your story.
Afroz Baig, Development Director

Inspiration

"Everything that makes man's lives worthwhile -- family, work, education, a place to rear one's children and a place to rest one's head -- all this depends on the decisions of government."

- Bobby Kennedy
